Chamber of Commerce previews Jackson County July 4 festivities

Todd, with the Chamber of Commerce, outlined a schedule of July 4 events across Jackson County on the recording, asking residents to take part in a day of parades, music and a fireworks display.

"Hi everybody, it's Todd with the Chamber. We're so excited to be here," Todd said as he opened the announcement and thanked Chamber staff members Belinda and Bill for helping organize the events.

Organizers said a parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Dillsboro, proceeding down Front Street from Webster Street. "It's going to go down Front Street starting at Webster Street all the way down Front Street," a presenter said, describing viewing opportunities along Front Street.

Speakers emphasized the parade will honor veterans. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9493 was named as grand marshal, and Miss Dillsboro Brenda Anders will participate. "A number of our veterans groups Veterans of Foreign Wars 9493 will be the grand marshal," the presenter said.

Afternoon activities are scheduled in Sylva at Bridge Park. A presenter said the Community Winds band, made up largely of Jackson County residents, will perform at 3:00 p.m., followed by a presentation of the colors to honor veterans and a 1776 reenactment-style presentation.

For the evening, organizers announced Got You Groove will perform at 6:00 p.m. and play until fireworks time. "They will perform until fireworks time. So, we're so excited. Got a big fireworks plan this year," Todd said, framing the events as part of honoring "America's 250th birthday."
