Long Beach reviews sewer maintenance updates and hears county-funded organics drop-site proposal

At the Dec. 12, 2018 Long Beach City Council meeting, Dennis Dalager of People Service delivered the monthly sewer maintenance report and recommended operational changes, and Christa Weitzel presented a county-funded organics drop-site proposal.
Dalager reported a meter has been installed and calibrated on the 6-inch sewer line and that two new pumps have been ordered. He recommended changing the call-out system because the city has had to repair a phone line frequently; the council deferred taking operational action and will discuss the recommendation at a later meeting.
The minutes record that permits have been issued for lowering the 6-inch main near Brownies HWY 28/29; that work is scheduled to start the week of the 16th and is expected to finish within one week of starting. Council assigned Mike Pfeiffer to follow up with the city accountant (Wangsness) on overdue sewer accounts.
Separately, Christa Weitzel presented information about an organics drop site; Pope/Douglas Solid Waste has approved the site and will pay for the service, which will be free of charge to the city and Long Beach residents. The council will discuss details and next steps at a future meeting.
