Long Beach council approves rezoning, sets levy and adopts charitable-gambling ordinance

The Long Beach City Council on Dec. 12, 2018 approved a series of administrative and land-use actions, including a rezoning request, a resolution amending the city land-use ordinance, the 2019 property tax levy and an ordinance adopting a state charitable-gambling trade-area rule.
The council voted to rezone parcel 24-0188-000 (17861 247th Avenue) from MHD (Medium & High Density Residential) to LD (Low Density Residential) after accepting the planning commission's recommendation. The motion to approve the rezoning was made by Councilmember Bill Rood and seconded by Gerald Rust; the motion carried.
The council also adopted Resolution 123R, which orders adoption of the summary of amendments to Ordinance No. 2009-01 (the city's land-use regulations) intended to provide for orderly development and protect public health, safety and welfare. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Mike Pfeiffer and seconded by Ken Moe; the motion carried.
On fiscal matters, the council set the 2019 property-tax levy at $116,500, the same amount as the prior year. Councilmember Bill Rood moved to set the levy at $116,500; Mike Pfeiffer seconded and the motion carried.
The council approved Ordinance 107 to adopt Minnesota Statute 349.213 as it relates to charitable gambling within the city. The ordinance discussion noted a defined trade area requiring associations conducting charitable gambling to donate 50% of net profits to charitable organizations within Pope County. The motion to approve Ordinance 107 was made by Mike Pfeiffer, seconded by Gerald Rust, and carried unanimously.
