Belpre adds EV charger site request for 1618 Washington Boulevard to council agenda

Council voted on May 11 to add for first reading a resolution authorizing use of city-owned property at 1618 Washington Boulevard for electric vehicle chargers and to bypass committee review. The measure was added to the agenda with a unanimous vote.
Mr. Locke moved to bypass committee and place "A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE REAL PROPERTY OWNED BY THE CITY OF BELPRE AT 1618 WASHINGTON BOULEVARD, BELPRE, OHIO 45714 FOR THE ACCEPTANCE OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV) CHARGER(s)" on the meeting agenda for first reading. Mayor Abdella told council the installation is part of a SOPEC grant and "it will be owned, operated and maintained by the SOPEC organization," adding the placement would come at zero cost to the city and provide visitors a place to charge and walk to nearby restaurants. Council voted aye on adding the item; the resolution will lie over until the next council meeting for further action.
Mary Nally (SOPEC) later addressed council on aggregation and confirmed SOPEC offers fixed-term rates that residents can opt into or out of and thanked Belpre for being a member since 2020.
