Long Prairie council approves park shelter, airport payment and rezoning; accepts police resignation

The Long Prairie City Council met April 8, 2026, at City Hall and unanimously approved a series of construction, personnel and land-use actions, Mayor Jim Kreemer announced at the start of the meeting.
The council approved a combined $46,929.17 bid for Lions Park Shelter No. 3, awarding labor to RJ Contracting ($10,880) and materials to Long Prairie Lumber ($36,049.17). Council action also authorized Pay Application No. 2 for the Airport Hangar Project to Hy-Tec Construction in the amount of $232,845.00.
The meeting's most consequential land-use action was adoption of Ordinance 2026-04-08-01 to amend the official zoning map and rezone Parcel No. 36-0112500 from R1 (residential) to C2 (commercial). Council Member Clint Krueger moved the ordinance and Council Member Lilah Gripne seconded; the ordinance was adopted unanimously.
Council approved routine consent items including the April 8 agenda, minutes from March 25, 2026, and Donation Resolution No. 26-04-08-09 recording donations totaling $6,100 for March 2026.
On personnel matters, Council Member Lilah Gripne moved and Council Member JoAnn Schroeder seconded acceptance of Police Officer Jeremy Puff's resignation effective April 21, 2026, with a change of his status to part-time. The motion also authorized beginning recruitment for a replacement officer, with applications to be accepted through May 1, 2026; the motion was approved unanimously.
The council authorized advertising for seasonal Beach Supervisor positions at Lake Charlotte, setting a minimum applicant age of 18 and starting wages of $15.60 per hour (and $16.47 per hour for returning workers).
All motions recorded in the minutes were passed by unanimous vote of the members present: Mayor Jim Kreemer and Council Members Clint Krueger, JoAnn Schroeder and Lilah Gripne (Council Member Gabrier Perez was absent). With no further business, the council adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
