On events, the group brainstormed a range of options: a kids triathlon, a pickleball tournament, field days at rec centers and a small‑scale fall festival booth. Parks and Recreation staff (S4) cautioned that stage funding is constrained within the fiscal year and that staging choices will affect whether an event can be held in May or August. The committee agreed to staff a Booth at the city’s fall festival on Sept. 20 with a “mystery box” game; members will each bring two boxes and staff offered to supply prizes. The committee noted roughly $192 remained after paying bands and signage and discussed donating the leftover funds to the Police Auxiliary Corps (PAC) or using it for booth prizes.
Nicole Cressy (S8), chair of the NASA Community Voices Coalition, spoke during public comment to invite committee members to an October coalition meeting to coordinate youth‑focused events and partner with America’s Youth on community initiatives.
Members also discussed city plans for a paid‑parking program: parks staff said the city has selected a vendor and will convene a task force in October to set terms; several committee members said they would like their names submitted to serve and to represent youth concerns. Speakers mentioned a citizens’ petition seeking to place parking on the ballot and raised concerns about local impacts, with one member noting possible state‑statute limits on petitions. No formal vote or policy decision was made; Chair confirmed the committee’s next meeting is Sept. 24.
