The Marysville City Council on June 22 authorized the mayor to sign a construction contract with North End Excavating, Inc. for the Marysville Middle School (now Liberty Elementary) Safe Routes to School project on 49th Drive NE, awarding the low bid of $325,973.75 including sales tax and approving a 10% management reserve of $32,597.38 for a total allocation of $358,571.13.
Engineering Services Director Jeff Lock told the council the project received eight bids and the low bid came in roughly $100,000 below the engineer’s estimate. The project will construct a 10‑ft‑wide concrete sidewalk with a landscape buffer and storm‑water improvements to create a safer pedestrian route to the school; the grant that funds the project covers design costs and the City expects the grant to absorb most construction costs.
Director Lock said the city hopes to execute a contract quickly so preconstruction could begin the week after the July 4 holiday and noted the contract specifies 40 working days, which would target substantial completion around Aug. 28 — just before the start of the school year. Council approved the motion to authorize the mayor to execute the contract (voice vote).
