Board approves superintendent's personnel items, new programs and contracts; kindergarten "Kickstart" and SAT prep among agenda items

The Indian Hill Exempted Village Board approved the superintendent's report and multiple agenda items after a presentation by Superintendent Dr. Stewart.
Dr. Stewart told the board the district will hold a public hearing and consider reemployment of retired bus driver Debbie Friend at its May meeting; no decision was made tonight. The board approved program and personnel items including a new kindergarten "Kickstart" program at a tuition of $200 per student, and summer SAT preparatory courses: reading/writing only ($225), math-only ($225) and a full SAT prep ($425).
The board also approved an updated recruitment and retention bonus program for bus drivers to address ongoing recruitment challenges identified by district leaders. Personnel actions approved included certified staff, administrative contracts and retirements: Chris Rochin (music educator) announced retirement after 34 years; Mitchell Hardy will replace Rochin in an upcoming assignment. Whitney Buell was listed for approval as assistant superintendent of teaching and learning; Brian Phelps as director of alumni and activity advancement; Danielle Lince was recognized for her appointment back to the elementary principal role.
The treasurer reported and the board approved financial items, including payment of $5,000 to Liberty Mutual for a deductible and a $3,286.57 payment to GER Company for emergency HVAC repairs. Contracts approved for the 2025'26 school year included a memorandum of understanding with the University of Dayton and Saint Vincent (mental-health therapist) for $22,950; Hamilton County Educational Service Center annual services ($320,525.60); and nursing service agreements with the Warren County ESC ($284,752), the latter noted as IEP-related nursing coverage.
Motions to approve the superintendent report and financial reports were seconded and adopted by roll-call votes. The board also approved policy updates (items A through S) on second reading.
Board members did not take final action tonight on the potential reemployment of the retired driver; Dr. Stewart said the district will review public feedback and take formal action at the May meeting.
