Canton approves higher GMP for 225 Park Street rehab, to use PARTF funds for overage; OKs $10,095 NC State subagreement

The Canton Board of Aldermen on June 11 approved changes to the 225 Park Street rehabilitation contract and a subagreement with North Carolina State University for Phase II work.
Manager Stinnett presented proposed contract changes from Harper General Contractors, saying the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for Phase One is now $746,366, approximately $74,163 (about 11%) above the initial target GMP of $672,203 that had been planned using Department of Commerce grant funds. Stinnett told the board the additional cost will be captured from the recently awarded Phase Two grant from the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Fund (PARTF).
Separately, the board approved a subagreement with NC State for work on Phase II of the project at a cost of $10,095. Alderwoman Proctor moved to approve the subagreement; Alderman Shepherd seconded and the motion carried.
Manager Stinnett and the board did not identify any changes to the project schedule in the minutes; Notices to Proceed for related construction activity were approved elsewhere on the agenda. The board’s votes on the contract changes and the subagreement were recorded as approved without opposition.
Next steps: Harper Construction is scheduled to begin work on 225 Park Street in about 1.5 weeks, per the Notices to Proceed approved at the same meeting.
