Committee outlines summer public engagement plan for Marine Village Hall

The Marine Multi-Generational Education District Advisory Committee on March 18 set a public engagement plan for summer 2025 that centers on two one-hour visioning sessions at Marine Village Hall, a short residential survey and consultation with local technical experts to inform recommendations to the City Council.
The sessions — one daytime and one evening, likely in August — are meant to provide a neutral assessment of the site and context for Master Plan Option 3 (Growth Plan) and to solicit resident feedback, the Committee said. The Committee emphasized the sessions are not intended as promotional events for MVS or MMFS but to gather community priorities and concerns that will shape a written report to the City Council.
Committee members agreed to limit the residential survey to no more than ten questions to broaden participation among residents who cannot attend the sessions. The Committee will work with MVS and MMFS to produce a looping PowerPoint for use during the open-house style sessions and will station Committee and partner representatives at charrette boards where residents can leave written input via post-it notes.
To ensure technical issues are addressed, the Committee identified a set of local subject-matter experts to consult, including perspectives on utilities, engineering, fire and rescue requirements, and zoning. Minutes note specific concerns such as the potential need for an on-site cistern or underground tank to meet ISO/fire response requirements for the upper village.
For outreach, the Committee plans to use the city website, postal mail, the city newsletter and the community bulletin board; it may issue a press release for the Country Messenger but decided against giving interviews to limit editorializing. Members said the April 15 meeting will assign teams to run the visioning sessions and survey, and will begin planning how session input will be compiled, analyzed and presented in the final report.
The Committee listed in attendance Charlie Anderson, Tim Casey, Julie McGarvie, Kitsi Vadheim, Lisa White and Dan Willenbring; the next meeting is scheduled for April 15, 2025, 6:30–8:30 p.m. at 550 Pine Street.
