Town updates: Cold Stone Springs recognition, Brownfields schedule, ZBA recommendations and summer intern introduced

At the May 13 meeting the Select Board recognized Cold Stone Springs for an EPA recommendation and honorable mention, heard that Stanley Black & Decker has 120 days to file a remedial action plan for a Brownfields site, received ZBA candidate recommendations, and introduced a summer intern.
The Select Board received multiple staff reports and recognitions at its May 13 meeting.
Chairman Charles Turcotte announced that NH DES recommended the Cold Stone Springs Aquarius project to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and that Jaffrey was among the only towns in New Hampshire to receive an Honorable Mention. The board acknowledged local contributors, including Tony Cavaliere, representatives from Peterborough and Underwood Engineers, and supporters Maggie Hasson and Millipore.
Town Manager Jon Frederick reported a Brownfields update: Stanley Black & Decker has 120 days to submit a remedial action plan for the site under state and federal oversight. Jo Anne Carr contacted the EPA’s Technical Assistance Program to help develop a proposed site redevelopment plan with renderings. Frederick also said the recent renewal of the Groundwater Management Permit for Elite Laundry reduced the number of wells required for sampling and narrowed the Groundwater Management Zone.
The board was presented with two recommended Zoning Board of Adjustment candidates, Peter Chamberlain and Ken Prien. The meeting also noted a Planning Board site walk scheduled for May 29 at 7:30 a.m. for the Monadnock Food Coop project, which includes structural changes where a former drive-thru was located and proposed upgrades to electrical and rooftop HVAC equipment.
Finally, the board welcomed summer intern Izzie Rollins, who will serve 15 weeks after completing her freshman year at the University of Rhode Island. The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
