Avondale Estates narrows downtown master-plan teams; contract to be presented March 11

Avondale Estates staff told the board on Feb. 24 that 11 teams submitted proposals for the downtown master plan and a selection committee narrowed the field to a lead team listed in the board packet.
The selection committee included representatives from the downtown development authority, property owners and the planning and zoning board. Staff described the recommended team as having a strong public-engagement approach and named an economic subconsultant and a transportation subconsultant listed in the proposals. Financial bids were close—reports said they clustered around the grant amount provided by the Atlanta Regional Commission—so staff will present a final contract to the board for approval at the March 11 meeting.
If approved, staff expects the consultant-led planning process to begin in April and continue roughly through January, with public-engagement steps coordinated to avoid repetitive outreach alongside a concurrent comprehensive development plan update. Staff said the contract presentation will include a more detailed schedule and community engagement plan.
No formal contract vote occurred on Feb. 24; the board members praised the quality of proposals and signaled readiness to move forward once the contract is before them.
