Lakefield council approves SummerFest, school fun run, Lions BINGO, peddler permit and pool valve repair

At its May 18 meeting the Lakefield City Council approved permits for Pleasantview Elementary's water run, SummerFest (June 15–21), Lakefield Lions BINGO, a peddler's license for Summer School Treats, and a $1,500 estimate to replace a leaking main ball valve at the aquatic center. The SummerFest permit passed with one abstention.
The Lakefield City Council on May 18 approved multiple community event permits, a peddler's license and a small facilities repair estimate.
Clerk Holly Rademacher said Pleasantview Elementary requested a special event permit for a water-run celebration on May 26 or 28, using the walking path and portions of Milwaukee and Menage; the school requested police presence. Rademacher told the council the school had run the event last year and was "very respectful" and cleaned up balloon fragments and trash. Council approved the Pleasantview permit on a motion by Heather Hussong-Reasoner, seconded by Andrea Monson.
The council also approved the SummerFest Committee's multi-day permit for June 15–21; events include a Thursday hot-dog night at the north city park shelter and food trucks along Douglas Street on Saturday. Councilmember Jeff Paplow moved to approve the SummerFest permit, Brent Pavelko seconded; the motion carried with an abstention by Hussong-Reasoner.
Lakefield Lions applied to hold BINGO at the north park shelter on June 17 during SummerFest and Relay for Life night; the council approved the Lions' permit. Corey Hanson’s request for a peddler's license for Summer School Treats (May–Dec. 31, 2026) to sell ice cream around town was approved, and the council expressed general support for the business operating around the city.
Schwickert's provided a $1,500 estimate to replace a leaking main ball valve at the aquatic center identified during a recent backflow test (reference ST51013338); the clerk said the leak does not prevent refilling the pool. Council approved the repair estimate on a motion by Hussong-Reasoner, seconded by Monson.
Earlier in the meeting the council also approved routine items including the May 4 minutes and the financial statements. The council adjourned at 7:21 p.m.; its next meeting is scheduled for June 8, 2026.
