Lynd council approves purchase of Silver Smith GIS, to be paid from Water Fund

The Lynd City Council voted unanimously on Jan. 21 to purchase Silver Smith GIS and related hardware, authorizing payment from the Water Fund.

Mayor Justin Guggisberg moved to approve acquiring the Silver Smith GIS software; Councilwoman Shantel Williams seconded. The motion carried with all members present voting in favor.

Clerk/Treasurer Sue Paradis and Public Works Director Dillon Schultz outlined start-up and recurring costs discussed during the Public Works report: a $571 start-up annual charge (noted again as an annual charge in the report), a $450 Samsung Android tablet, a $600-per-year unlimited data plan for the tablet, and a one-time $2,700 GIS marking device. Council directed payment from the Water Fund rather than the general fund.

During the same report, Dillon Schultz said a payloader (AMI blade) was damaged between Thanksgiving and Christmas after catching the right side of the wing when exiting the golf course; he contacted RDO and filed a claim with the city’s insurer. The damage is expected to be covered by insurance less the $250 deductible. The council also accepted a separately reported weather-siren repair costing $386.04 installed on a pole by Lyon-Lincoln Electric.

The council approved the Public Works report and related motions without objection. The purchase commits the city to the stated startup and recurring costs; the council did not record a separate vote tally by name beyond the unanimous consent noted in the minutes.

The council’s next scheduled meeting is the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Lynd Community Center.
