The Jasper County Board of Supervisors handled several routine items and a personnel matter at its June 16 meeting. The board set a public hearing on the FY2025-2026 budget amendment for June 30, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in the Jasper County Board of Supervisors room. Supervisor Cupples made the motion to set the hearing and Supervisor Talsma seconded; the vote was recorded as unanimous.
During the meeting the board approved cigarette/tobacco/nicotine/vapor permits for Iowa’s Best Burger Café and the Izaak Walton League on motions by Supervisor Talsma, seconded by Supervisor Cupples; both motions passed 3-0. The board also approved claims paid through June 16, 2026, the regular Board of Supervisors minutes from June 9, 2026, and the special meeting minutes for the Canvass of the June 2, 2026 Primary Election.
There were no board appointments recorded. Later in the session, at the request of Connie McQuiston, General Assistance Director, the board entered a closed session under Iowa Code sections 21.5(1)(i) (to evaluate the professional competency of an individual at that person's request) and 21.5(1)(a) (to review or discuss records required or authorized to be kept confidential); the roll call recorded 'Yea' votes from Supervisors Nearmyer, Talsma and Cupples. The minutes record the board later voted to come out of closed session and adjourned the meeting. The minutes do not disclose the substance of the personnel discussion, consistent with the cited statutory exemptions.
