City Planner Lassonde reported on recommendations from the Traffic & Safety Committee following the Active Transportation Plan. The Council approved a Haughton Avenue demonstration project that would test multiple traffic-calming treatments; if successful, staff may recommend making changes permanent.
Regarding Hoover Elementary, the committee recommended installing a pedestrian ramp, a sidewalk landing and a marked crosswalk across Roe Crest Drive at Clare Drive, contingent on ISD 77 providing a crossing guard during peak school travel times. The committee also recommended reconfiguring the Marie Lane/Roe Crest Drive intersection into a standard all-way-stop-controlled T-intersection as part of the future Marie Lane Lift Station and Force Main project to address long crossing distances and large intersection geometry.
Council approved the demonstration project and Safe Routes improvements unanimously. Staff noted any intersection changes tied to utility work would be handled via change order if quantities require adjustments and would be brought back to Council when material.
