Cedartown commission approves millings, sets rollback rate at 12 mills and OKs $75,000 tree‑planting proposal

The Cedartown City Commission on April 13 approved several routine but substantive items including a street-milling contract, a tax-rate resolution, and a tree‑planting proposal.
The commission awarded a milling contract for College Street to Northwest Georgia Paving for $97,816.66; Commissioner Matt Foster abstained from that vote. The body also adopted RESOLUTION 5, 2026, setting the 2026 estimated rollback rate at 12 mills. Separately, the commission approved a tree‑planting proposal from Trammell Lawn Care not to exceed $75,000.
The meeting record shows the commission also granted event approvals: an 85th‑anniversary celebration for the West Cinema (Aug. 16) contingent on neighbor approvals, insurance naming the city as additional insured, security and Polk County permission for parking; the Turner Street Reunion scheduled June 20 at the Turner Street Community Center; and temporary parking-lot use for a summer art camp June 1–13. The city also approved park and facility uses tied to the Cedartown 5k Training Camp including Lankford Event Center (July 1) and Peek Pavilion activities (May 30) plus permission for food trucks during the July 2 race.
Manager Edward Guzman briefed the commission on upcoming meetings, including a Georgia Municipal Association District 1 meeting where staff will review recently adopted state laws, and reminded the public that bids for the Cedartown Performing Arts Center renovation (partially funded with a $1 million ARC grant) will be opened next Monday.
The commission entered executive session to discuss real estate and legal matters and later adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
