Cedartown designates city as redevelopment agency and greenlights plan for Tax Allocation District No. 1

The Cedartown City Commission on Dec. 8 unanimously approved a resolution designating the City of Cedartown as the city27s redevelopment agency and authorizing staff to prepare a Redevelopment Plan and create Tax Allocation District Number One.

City Attorney Carey Pilgrim opened a public hearing on the proposed redevelopment plan and creation of a tax allocation district and asked if anyone wished to speak for or against the proposal; no members of the public spoke, and the hearing was closed. Following the hearing, Commissioner Jessica Payton moved and Commissioner Dale Tuck seconded the motion to approve RESOLUTION 23, 2025; the vote was recorded as all "Aye," none "No."

The resolution authorizes the city to act as the local redevelopment agency and to prepare the formal planning documents required to propose a tax allocation district. The Commission did not adopt a detailed plan or financing terms at the meeting; the motion authorized preparation of the plan and related work only.
