New Germany council cancels utility assessment, approves generator contract and investment agreement

The New Germany City Council on Nov. 6 canceled Resolution 2024-20, which would have adopted assessments for unpaid utility bills and placed them on property tax rolls, and approved a set of routine and vendor agreements, all by 5-0 votes.
Council approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Councilmember Paul Roepke, seconded by Kevin Grove. The clerk reported the open public hearing and the proposed assessment to property taxes were canceled. Later, the council approved the consent agenda — including Oct. 15 council minutes, claims for payment and financial reports — on a motion by Kevin Grove, seconded by Thomas Mielke; that motion carried 5-0.
In old business, the council approved a three-year generator contract with Advanced Power that includes load-banking services; the motion to approve was made by Roepke and seconded by Lorn Herrmann and passed unanimously. The council also approved a discretionary advisory agreement with Ehlers Investment; Kevin Grove moved, Thomas Mielke seconded, and the motion carried 5-0.
Clerk Twyla Menth reported that 2024 special assessments paid off totaled $17,500 and those funds will be credited to the water fund. The council scheduled a future workshop to review city projects and set the final levy for 2025; a specific date will be set later. The meeting adjourned at 8:33 p.m. on a motion by Grove, seconded by Mielke, carried 5-0.
