Council approves Bethlehem 1st UMC 'water night'; discusses short‑notice carnival logistics

Wiggley said the church would provide inflatables, serve refreshments, hang a 3x8‑foot banner by the road and handle cleanup.
"We had over 200 families come through," Wiggley said, describing the event as open to the community and noting the church would manage setup and cleanup. Council members moved and seconded a motion to approve the event; the motion passed.
Council also discussed a last‑minute carnival opportunity that arose after another town’s cancellation. Organizers told the council they would pay a $3,000 setup fee, provide porta‑johns and security and stay on site overnight for staffing. Councilors raised questions about parking logistics (use of the square and adjacent fields), noise limits (10 p.m. closing on weeknights), traffic control and coordination with the sheriff’s office; staff said details would be finalized and posted by the next morning. The carnival item was discussed but not voted on at this meeting.
Separately, the council approved EDC signage and unanimously renewed a long‑standing radio station business license during routine business.
