The Winter Harbor Selectmen on Aug. 25 approved routine financial measures, signed a property quitclaim deed, agreed to sell the fire department's ladder truck for $5,000 and asked staff to schedule a public meeting to discuss the possible sale of the Sargent Street marina.
The meeting opened at 6:00 p.m.; the board approved the Aug. 11, 2025 meeting minutes and Warrants #8 (Aug. 19) and #9 (Aug. 22) by recorded votes of 2-0. The Treasurer's Report dated Aug. 22, 2025 was approved, and the board signed a tax commitment after the Tax Collector's report showing taxes receivable at $29,160.88 for FY25 (98.82% collected) and $3,712.75 for FY24 (99.82% collected).
The Fire Chief/Road Commissioner told the board that during the lobster festival a restorationist offered to buy the department's ladder truck; the board approved the sale for $5,000, and the chief said proceeds from that sale plus funds raised at the festival will go toward purchasing a replacement fire truck. The minutes record the sale approval but do not list a mover/second for the motion.
On marina matters, Pearl Barto raised concerns about the old marina facility on Sargent Street. The board discussed the possibility of selling the property and directed staff to set up a public meeting so residents and interested parties can provide input before the Selectmen take further action.
Administrative items included the Treasurer's account balances (Trio-General Ledger $593,409.23; a 6-month certificate of deposit $105,382.87) and listed bond investments ($3,499,504.31 as of May 31, 2025; $3,522,980.90 as of June 30, 2025). Payroll (Town P/R #8) was $15,896.32 and accounts payable (Town A/P #9) totaled $49,217.06, for combined disbursements of $65,113.38. The board received FYI materials including Schoodic EMS reports and an MMA Risk Management letter.
The regular meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.; the board entered executive session on personnel matters under 1 M.R.S.A. (6)(A) at 7:03 p.m. and returned to the public meeting at 7:07 p.m. The minutes note no public action resulting from that executive session.
The board instructed staff to schedule the public meeting about the Sargent Street marina; no date for that meeting was provided in the minutes.
