County audits trash accounts after finding 76 extra cans; cardboard compactor purchase tabled

County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners at the Sept. 3 meeting staff began auditing garbage accounts that list two trash cans and found 76 accounts with an apparent extra can that is not being billed. Weaver said staff will contact account holders to determine whether cans were left behind when tenants moved and to correct billing where appropriate.
On the same agenda, the commission considered a proposal to place a cardboard compactor at the county recycle center. Commissioner Jason Frost moved, and Commissioner Timothy Biddle seconded, a motion to table the compactor purchase and return the item to the next work session for additional information; the motion passed unanimously. Separately, the commission approved a motion allowing businesses to establish accounts at the recycle center (motion by Commissioner Frost; second by Commissioner Douglas), also recorded as unanimous.
The minutes do not record a proposed purchase price for the compactor or details about how business accounts will be charged; the items were either tabled or approved contingent on an agreement being available for the next meeting. The recycling and garbage-account items will be revisited at the work session or next regular meeting when documentation is provided.
