Milaca board approves personnel changes, $2.4 million in transfers and amended Rum River special-education agreement

The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 912 (Milaca Public School District) met Monday, April 20, and voted unanimously on a series of personnel, financial and governance items.
The board, chaired by Aimee Struffert, approved the consent agenda 7–0. The consent agenda included approval of the March 16 regular- and April 6 special-meeting minutes; multiple personnel actions including hires, changes in assignment and resignations; and board acceptance of a retirement. It also recorded transfers of district funds totaling $2,400,000 from PMA/MN Trust to First National Bank on March 2 ($400,000), March 11 ($750,000), March 23 ($250,000) and March 27 ($1,000,000).
Among personnel items approved were hires and coaching assignments with stated stipend amounts: Trent Pratka as junior-high girls track coach ($2,370.83, effective March 24, 2026); Brent Jergens as 9th-grade baseball coach ($3,081.85, effective March 16, 2026); Jeramie Peterson as 7th-grade softball coach ($2,370.83, effective March 24, 2026); Ryan DeBoer as 7th-grade baseball coach ($2,370.83, effective March 24, 2026); and Brooke Converse as assistant FFA advisor ($2,634.25, effective September 2, 2025). The board also accepted several resignations and one retirement: Andrew Nelson is recorded as retiring from multiple band-director roles effective July 10, 2026, after 23 years of service.
The board adopted a resolution accepting gifts and donations, including a $1,400 Milaca High School Energy Grant, a $2,000 donation from the American Legion for Milaca High School travel, and a donated golf cart for district and family use. The gifts resolution cites Minnesota Statute 465.03 as the statutory basis for accepting gifts by resolution.
Separately, the board completed a third reading and adopted Policy 507.5 regarding school resource officers and recorded naming Steve Voshell as the district's LEA representative for applications under Public Law 107-110. The board also adopted a resolution designating Superintendent David Wedin as the Identified Official with Authority (IOwA) for Education Identity Access Management (EDIAM) for 2026–2027.
The board adopted separate resolutions to terminate and not renew the probationary contracts of teachers Roberta Kightlinger and Deborah Winkler; both resolutions were approved with unanimous votes recorded.
The board also approved an Amended and Restated Joint Powers Agreement for the Rum River Special Education Cooperative by unanimous vote.
