The Lamberton City Council approved a motion Dec. 8 to proceed with a proposed amendment to the city’s animal ordinance that would require pet owners to remove animal feces in public and impose a $50 fee for noncompliance.
Clerk Valerie Halter told the council she had received complaints about pet owners not picking up after animals and, upon review, found the current ordinance contains no enforceable cleanup requirement. She presented draft wording to add the cleanup obligation and a $50 noncompliance fee. Councilmembers asked clarifying questions and approved moving forward with the proposal (motion by L. Bittner, seconded by A. Cairns; unanimous 5-0).
No ordinance language was adopted at the meeting; the council’s action authorizes staff to proceed with drafting the ordinance amendment and scheduling it for future consideration. The council did not take enforcement actions at the Dec. 8 meeting.
