McIntosh council grants conditional fireworks permit, $1,000 donation; tables beer-garden request

The McIntosh City Council on Feb. 12 granted permission for a professional fireworks display for the city’s USA 250th birthday celebration, approved a $1,000 donation to the event and cleared a 2026 liquor license for Katie’s Place.
Val Brekke requested a permit for a professional fireworks display planned for July 3, 2026 at the lift station area on 1st Street SE and asked whether the city would contribute funding. The council granted permission provided weather conditions were not too dry for fireworks and approved a $1,000 city donation. Councilmember Luke Syverson moved the donation; Councilmember Beth Hagen seconded and the motion carried.
Separately, the council approved the 2026 liquor license for Katie’s Place under Denise Stark’s LLC. Denise Stark also asked for permission to set up a beer garden during the USA 250th celebration; the council expressed no opposition to the beer garden in principle but tabled that request until more information on the proposed location is provided.
The council approved the monthly bills of $19,121.32 and then adjourned at 6:38 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for March 12, 2026.
