McIntosh Council hears Poplar Meadows occupancy report and notes $100,000 housing grant

The McIntosh City Council heard an update on the Poplar Meadows assisted-living facility and approved related expenses during its April 7 meeting.
Rebecca Boehrnsen, licensed assisted living director for Poplar Meadows, told the council the facility has 27 residents and two open apartments. Following that report, the council approved submitted claims for Poplar Meadows totaling $75,456.02 after a motion by Councilmember Mark Simonson and a second from Councilmember Beth Hagen.
Councilmember Hagen also moved, and Councilmember Simonson seconded, approval to purchase a new range for Poplar Meadows from Performance Food Service for $4,514.00; the motion carried. The purchases and claims were presented as part of routine facility operations and maintenance.
Separately, City Clerk/Treasurer Melissa Finseth informed the council that the city has submitted paperwork to the state for the Minnesota Tier II Housing Grant and is awaiting a fund-distribution confirmation date. McIntosh was awarded $100,000, which the clerk said will help offset Poplar Meadows’ annual debt payment.
The council took no separate action on the grant at the meeting; the clerk said the city is waiting on the state to provide a confirmation date for when funds will be distributed.
The council adjourned at 6:25 p.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for May 14, 2026.
