Brooks council hears reports on market, stormwater restoration and a film shoot; approves library deaccession

At the June 26 meeting the Brooks Town Council received committee and officer reports and approved several administrative items.
Library representative K. Bradley reported an increase in summer readership and requested approval to deaccession 349 books valued at $497.35; Council Member Todd Speer moved to approve the deaccession and the motion passed unanimously. Town Clerk Lorey Spohr reported that a recent GIRMA inspection’s items were completed and that Fayette County Water System mailed the 2022 and 2023 Water Quality Reports; the Town will move from annual to quarterly testing.
Town Manager Maurice Ungaro said the Brooks Market held that past weekend was well attended, with new vendors selling items such as flowers and dog treats. Transportation updates included delivery of “intersection ahead” signs for Hwy 85 Connector and Brooks Road awaiting county installation and a Morgan Mill stop sign that has been ordered.
On stormwater, Ungaro said Fayette County plans to remove a pipe in the creek at Brooks Park, daylight and grade the creek bed when conditions allow, and landscape the area to improve drainage; because the creek is on county land, the town will not be financially responsible for the project. Ungaro also reported that Marvel Studios filmed action sequences nearby and the town received a $500 location fee plus rental for Hardy Hall.
Mayor Langford announced a Papa Jinx bluegrass concert on July 13 at 7 p.m., organized by the Brooks Woman’s Club.
With no further business the council recessed to an executive session at 8:15 p.m.; the meeting adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
