Brooks opens public hearing on proposed tax increase; no millage vote taken

Mayor Daniel Langford opened a public hearing Aug. 14 at 6:32 p.m. to receive public input on a proposed tax increase and the town's millage rate. The hearing was part of a regularly scheduled meeting of the Brooks Town Council.
The council approved the meeting agenda at the start of the session after a motion from Council Member Todd Speer and a second from Council Member Kay Brumbelow; the vote was unanimous. After opening the public hearing, the mayor invited comments limited to the proposed tax increase and millage rate.
D. Harris, of 968 Hwy 85 Connector, asked about the status of the town's war memorial. Mayor Daniel Langford told Mr. Harris the public hearing was limited to discussion of the proposed tax increase and millage rate and that other topics were outside the scope of the hearing. No other attendees raised questions or comments regarding property taxes or the millage rate.
The mayor closed the public hearing at 6:41 p.m. and opened an executive session at 6:42 p.m. The executive session concluded at 7:10 p.m. Afterward, Council Member Todd Speer moved to adjourn, Council Member Kay Brumbelow seconded, and the council voted unanimously to adjourn at 7:11 p.m.
No vote was recorded on any change to the millage rate or on a tax increase during the meeting. The minutes were signed and submitted by Lorey Spohr, Town Clerk.
