James Geisen, Economic Stability Administration Director, told the Kent County Department of Health & Human Services board on April 15 that the office met key performance indicators for application timeliness and for UCL task processing in March 2026 and has authorized all FY26 funds for Direct Support Services.
Geisen reported that the county's InContact call center handled more than 17,000 calls in March and that staff reviewed MDHHS Greenbook data, Food Assistance Program (FAP) payment error-rate information and recent TANF and CDC audit material as part of operational oversight. He said the county is pursuing several statewide and local initiatives intended to reduce SNAP payment errors and improve benefit accuracy.
On local program initiatives, Geisen said the county received approval to expand positions funded through Donated Funds Agreements to include partnerships with Corewell Health and Family Promise, and that MDHHS will partner with the Office of Child Support by providing space for an occasional outreach table at the local office so visitors can obtain child-support information. He described a March 25 all-staff meeting and a lunch-and-learn session for staff interested in the Assistance Payments Supervisor role.
Geisen also noted the department will run the 10th annual Kent County Walking Challenge from April 20 to May 31 as a staff wellness event.
The report did not include new dollar amounts for the FY26 Direct Support Services authorization or specifics about the number of positions to be added under the Donated Funds Agreement; those details were not specified in the meeting record. The board recorded no public comment during the meeting and adjourned at 8:33 a.m.
