Mesabi East board confirms hires, accepts donations and records student council update

The Mesabi East School District board approved several personnel actions and accepted donations at its Feb. 2 meeting.
On a motion by Director Undeland, seconded by Chair Walt Hautala, the board approved Janel Scheuring as Elementary 504 Coordinator effective Feb. 2, 2026. Director Hautala moved and Director LaFrenier seconded assigning Larry Olmstead as janitor up to 29 hours per week (seasonal), effective Jan. 20, 2026. Director Undeland moved and Director Adams seconded assigning Rebecca Wang as janitor up to 30 hours per week in a 12-month position, effective Jan. 23, 2026. The board accepted the resignation of bus para Tammy Royseth effective Jan. 13, 2026.
The board approved an Acceptance of Donations resolution listing monetary gifts and earmarks: $250 for Mesabi East Community Theatre; $45 and $1,220 for Kid's Closet; $600 for testing headphones; and $18,339.95 in monetary and in-kind items earmarked for Project Elf (including bicycles, fishing poles, food boxes, quilts, hats and clothing). The minutes show a roll-call with Ayes: Directors Undeland, Adams, Hautala and LaFrenier; Nayes: none.
During public comment, Student Council provided an update on Snoball and Homecoming week. The board tabled agenda item 9.11 (Website Community Sponsorship Recognition Program) for future consideration. The meeting adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
