Chair Walt Hautala called the Mesabi East School District board to order on Feb. 2, 2026. The board approved a revised 2025–26 budget and accepted a proposed 2026–27 budget during the meeting, and it adopted a resolution to examine programs and positions for possible reduction.
The board approved the consent agenda, which included payrolls and bills totaling $3,661,142.90, reorganization and regular meeting minutes from Jan. 5, 2026, and a tuition agreement with Minnesota Transitions Charter School for one student with a start date of Jan. 7, 2026. Director LaFrenier moved to approve the consent agenda and Director Hautala seconded; the motion passed.
Director Undeland moved and Director LaFrenier seconded a resolution directing the district to examine programs and positions for possible reduction; the minutes record a roll-call vote with Ayes: Directors Hautala, LaFrenier, Undeland and Adams; Nayes: none. The board also approved the revised 2025–26 budget on a motion by Director Hautala, seconded by Director Adams, and accepted the proposed 2026–27 budget on a motion by Director Undeland, seconded by Director Adams. All votes on those motions were recorded as "all in favor."
The board approved the 2026–27 school calendar on a separate motion by Director Adams, seconded by Director LaFrenier. Reports were filed under separate cover and the board set its next regular meeting for March 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Room (204). The meeting adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
