Planning commission opts to ask Pine County to administer cannabis zoning

Rock Creek Planning Commission members discussed cannabis (THC) zoning options and voted to ask Pine County to administer cannabis zoning on behalf of the town while retaining Rock Creek’s other zoning authorities.
Commissioners Dan Saumer and Curt Kubesh reported a meeting with a Pine County official and reviewed survey options that included full county administration, adoption of county ordinance language by the city, or local administration. Saumer explained that state rules distinguish lower-potency THC items from higher-potency products that must be sold from separate, dedicated premises with separate entrances and registers; such higher-potency sales cannot be colocated with convenience stores.
Members concluded Rock Creek is likely not suitable for THC retail sales and preferred that Pine County take primary responsibility for cannabis zoning. The commission also specified they would like to limit cannabis growing and manufacturing to the Light Industrial District and limit retail sales to the C-1 Highway Commercial District if local regulation becomes necessary. Oliver Rauschnot moved and Josh Froelich seconded instructing Deputy Clerk Ashley Rauschnot to submit the Pine County survey selecting county administration; the motion passed with all ayes.
