Silver Creek Township approves $1 hourly raise and backpay for maintenance staff, awards engineering bid to Otto Associates; motion to rescind siren acceptance敗

At its Dec. 17 meeting the Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors approved a $1-per-hour raise with backpay for maintenance staff, accepted an engineering bid from Otto Associates (one abstention) and defeated a motion to rescind a prior decision on donated Xcel sirens; routine claims, a vehicle sale and a treasurer's report were also recorded.
The Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors on Dec. 17 approved a $1.00-per-hour wage increase with retroactive pay for maintenance staff and selected Otto Associates for engineering services, while a motion to rescind a prior decision on donated Xcel sirens failed.
Chairman Mike Helman moved to grant a $1.00-per-hour raise with backpay to maintenance employees and to apply the increase retroactively to Oct. 28; Vice Chairman Brandon Geyen seconded the motion and it carried 4-0. The board recorded that both maintenance employees completed performance reviews on Dec. 6 and “met or exceeded expectations.” The minutes name one employee as Blake and note the board agreed that raise reviews apply 120 days after hire (Oct. 26). The board also noted that a county grant extension related to the maintenance program was approved.
Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen presented the Treasurer's Report and the board handled routine financial business: the agenda, the Dec. 3 meeting minutes and the list of disbursements were each approved in separate motions that carried 4-0. The audit of claims recorded payments including check 19153 to Cortrust for $259.68; 19147 to C&S for $280.00; 19144 to Menards for $189.10; and 19137 to Minnesota Unemployment Insurance for $3,639.08. The minutes also show the township sold a 2003 Chevy pickup for $6,600 at Elsenpeter Auctions.
During old-business discussion, the board postponed updates to job descriptions and property compliance letters. The board reviewed the Xcel Sirens donation acceptance form and discussed whether to keep the prior decision or change it. Vice Chairman Brandon Geyen moved to "ixnay sirens," a motion seconded by Chairman Mike Helman; the motion was defeated 1-3, and the minutes indicate the donation acceptance form will be updated and re-signed.
On new business, the board reviewed engineering bids from Otto Associates and CESD. Vice Chairman Geyen moved to accept the bid from Otto Associates; Supervisor Ryan Nelson seconded. Supervisor Andy Christensen abstained; the motion was recorded as carried 3-0 with one abstention. The meeting concluded after a motion by Geyen, seconded by Christensen, to adjourn.
Votes at a glance: the board recorded several unanimous procedural approvals (agenda, prior minutes, disbursements) as 4-0; the maintenance raise/backpay motion passed 4-0; the motion to "ixnay sirens" was defeated 1-3; and the Otto Associates contract award passed with a 3-0 tally and one abstention by Supervisor Christensen.
