Spirit Lake council approves $632,355.21 in bills, adopts tax-abatement resolution and OKs two liquor licenses

Councilmember Kofoot moved to approve the minutes of the Jan. 14 regular meeting; Councilmember Mensing seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Councilmember Kofoot then moved to approve the bill list and Councilmember Mensing seconded.
The approved payments included a $239,201.00 insurance premium to IA Communities Assurance Pool, a $115,392.15 invoice to the Dickinson County Engineer for Center Lake 165th Street, $45,796.72 for BCBS health insurance, payroll of $74,297.13 and landfill fees totaling $40,355.78. The bill list’s total was $632,355.21.
The council also approved a Class C retail alcohol license with outdoor service for Bucks Pub and a Special Class C retail alcohol license for Top of Iowa Lucky Wife. Both license motions were moved by Councilmember Kofoot, seconded by Councilmember Mensing and carried unanimously.
Councilmember Johnson introduced Resolution No. 2025-04, which approves tax abatement applications; Councilmember Mensing seconded the motion. The clerk recorded ayes from Johnson, Kofoot, Chappas and Mensing and the resolution was adopted.
Chief Brevik provided a brief staff update on the Winter Games weekend; the council took no formal action on that item. Councilmember Chappas moved to adjourn the meeting, Councilmember Kofoot seconded, and the council adjourned.
