Board hears network drop diagnosis, student activities update and boiler repairs

District technology leaders told the board on Feb. 10 that intermittent network dropouts affecting student devices are likely caused by aging network switches. Kevin Halder of Network Computer Solutions and Technology Director Jerry Bentley said they narrowed the issue to network switches that are at the end of their service life and are being overrun; they recommended replacing those switches to restore reliable connectivity.
During the communications and reports portion of the meeting, the robotics team reported having eight active members, a 33–2 record on the season, a third-place finish at the league championship and receipt of an innovative award that double-qualified the team for state competition. Student Rylynn Shepley also recounted a 10-day study trip to Spain last summer.
Superintendent Robert Busch reported that a leaking pipe causing boiler issues has been repaired but that additional pipes are deteriorating on the exterior and will need replacement. Busch reviewed information on an upcoming PPEL (Physical Plant and Equipment Levy) vote and walked the board through the district's five-year projection tool used in budget planning.
Board members asked staff to return with more details on the scale and cost of a proposed technology upgrade (the board tabled that agenda item pending the additional information). Facilities repair needs and the PPEL vote were discussed as next steps for capital planning.
