Resident urges COA to boost town awareness and invest to keep seniors in Wellesley

At the May 21 meeting, Wellesley resident Tom Kealy addressed the Council on Aging during Citizens Speak, urging the board to make the rest of town aware of who seniors are and what services the COA provides. Kealy suggested the town should recognize seniors’ financial and civic contributions and consider investments to help keep seniors living in Wellesley.
Board Chair Judy Gertler thanked Kealy for speaking and the board discussed instituting a follow-up policy for Citizens Speak. Barbara Searle said commenters who take the time to address the board should receive follow-up so they know they were heard. Assistant Director Kathy Savage said staff will follow up with a letter or phone call to participants and will ensure consistent follow-up going forward.
Kealy’s comments were raised as part of the public-comment period and no formal policy changes were adopted at the meeting. The board added a task to consider a formal policy on following up with Citizens Speak participants and will continue outreach and communications planning as part of broader senior-services tasks.
