Student survey shows mostly neutral to positive views of renovations; classrooms and HVAC top student concerns
Summary
A student survey presented to the committee received over 300 responses (mostly grades 10–12). Most students said they felt neutral or somewhat informed about the renovation and were generally satisfied; top concerns were classrooms/learning spaces (about 70%) and infrastructure such as HVAC and electrical.
Casey, the student representative, presented results from a district survey of North Penn students about the ongoing high school renovations. "We got over 300 responses," Casey said, noting most respondents were 10th–12th graders and a plurality were juniors.
The survey asked how informed students felt about the renovations and how satisfied they were with the process. Casey said many respondents reported feeling neutral or somewhat informed and that the majority were generally satisfied with project progress. When asked which areas needed the most attention, students prioritized A Pod followed by D and E pods; almost 70% identified classrooms and learning spaces as their primary concerns, followed by infrastructure items such as HVAC and electrical systems.
On the question of whether renovations affected learning and focus, the majority of respondents said they were either unaffected or only slightly affected. Casey suggested continuing visible updates — for example via school morning shows or digital displays in common areas — to keep students informed over the multi-year renovation.
Committee members thanked Casey for conducting the survey and suggested continued engagement as the project proceeds to prevent "project fatigue." The committee noted student feedback will be considered as staff finalizes staging and communication plans.
