Harmony EDA approves 2023 CEDA contract renewal and hears chamber update

The Harmony EDA unanimously approved a 2023 staffing contract renewal with Community and Economic Development Associates (CEDA) for economic development services at a renewal rate of $34,757, a 5% increase from 2022. The contract keeps the same service level of one day per week plus an extra day per month; the motion to approve was made by Steve Donney and seconded by Andy Batstone.
During the meeting Allison Whalen delivered the Chamber of Commerce report. She said decorative garland has been installed downtown (with help from the Kingsley family), Santa Day preparations were under way with expectations of a larger turnout after Preston cancelled its event, and the chamber raised $1,200 for downtown directional signage at a recent fundraiser. Whalen said the chamber is working on rebranding, member-management software and a marketing plan; the chamber’s annual meeting is scheduled for Jan. 17, 2023 and a first annual golf tournament is planned for 2023.
On prospects and loan policy, Chris Giesen updated the board and members discussed allowing larger EDA loans on a case-by-case basis for projects that warrant more than the standard $25,000 maximum; no formal change was adopted, but the board expressed consensus to be flexible and evaluate applications individually.
No other business was reported. The meeting adjourned at 10:20 AM; a special meeting is scheduled for Dec. 8, 2022 and the next regular meeting for Jan. 5, 2023.
