Long Prairie council approves street projects, seal coating and multiple budget moves

Mayor James Kreemer called the Long Prairie City Council to order at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and the council unanimously approved the consent calendar, including bills totaling $1,067,579.24.
The meeting’s most consequential actions centered on street and pavement work. Council Member Clint Krueger moved to authorize additional paving on 3rd Street North tied to the Main Lift Station Project; Council Member JoAnn Schroeder seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The council also approved the Long Prairie Township proposed bids for the 6th Street South project, authorizing a city share of $83,712, with $46,042 due this year and $37,670 due next year payable to Joe Riley Construction; that motion, moved by Krueger and seconded by Lilah Gripne, passed 5-0.
Mayor Kreemer moved to award the 2026 seal-coating contract to Allied Blacktop for four specified areas (excluding the incubator parking lot) at a total cost of $91,173.50; Council Member Krueger seconded and the vote was unanimous.
On budgetary items, Council Member Krueger moved to transfer $42,200.28 from the American Rescue Plan (COVID) Fund 203 to General Fund 101; Council Member Gabrier Perez seconded and the council approved the transfer unanimously. Separately, council members discussed an $80,000 portion of a 2024 state public-safety grant that Fire Chief Dan Laumeyer asked be earmarked for resealing the fire hall floors. Council members noted the 2024 financials had been closed and that any use of those funds would come from the 2026 budget; Krueger moved to table the proposed $80,000 transfer until the city receives quotes for the floor work, Mayor Kreemer seconded, and the motion to table passed unanimously.
The council also approved Resolution No. 26-04-22-10, authorizing the city to apply to accept funds from Sourcewell; the motion to approve the resolution was moved by Krueger, seconded by Gripne, and passed 5-0.
Council directed the city attorney to prepare an agreement with Long Prairie Township regarding the 6th Street project and asked City Engineer Kent Louwagie to investigate future street projects on Todd Street and Charlotte Lane and produce cost estimates for planning. With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:51 p.m.
