Miltona Township approves $52,507 in bills, schedules road work and agrees to driveway fixes

Miltona Township’s board accepted the treasurer’s report and approved bills totaling $52,507.19 at its Oct. 7 regular meeting. The treasurer reported balances of $7,367.75 in checking, $1,002.30 in the money market account and $622,376.84 in an Intrafi account, for total funds of $630,746.89; the board voted to accept the treasurer’s report and the bills by recorded motions that carried 3-0.
On road issues the board heard from Tom Bosl about a steep driveway entrance on Smokey Timbers Road; the board agreed the township will pay to place asphalt over existing concrete to reduce the approach angle for both Bosl’s and John Kramer’s driveways. The minutes record that a contractor will be notified to perform the work.
Board members reported ongoing and planned road maintenance: gravel will be placed on Vermont Access Road this week, dormant seeding with covering has been completed, Hidden Valley Road work is complete and Miltona Bay Road is expected to be finished the following week. The board also agreed to order 'Share the Road' and 30 MPH speed-limit signs for Miltona Bay Road.
The minutes note the drainage project on the east side of Lake Irene will not be completed because affected parties have not come to agreement to support one another on the work. The board further noted that 2025 special assessments must be submitted to Douglas County no later than Nov. 30, 2024; Tom (Blank) is validating the township’s road inventory with the county.
Under new business the board reviewed an email from resident Mike Urban (not present) asking for livestreaming of meetings, earlier posting of minutes to the township website, and voting on assessments by mailed paper ballot in spring or fall so all landowners can vote. The minutes record these items for consideration but do not show formal action on them.
During public comment resident Eric Gesel asked that an approach/access south of Vermont Access Road be restored to reach his field; the board said the contractor would be notified and the matter addressed. The board set its next regular meeting for Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Miltona Community Center and adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
