City says proposed data center's water use small relative to system capacity

City officials used the public session to address concerns about industrial or data-center water use. Nick Egger, Rosemount's public works director, said the city has a water-capacity agreement with the proposed Meta site that allows up to 100,000 gallons of the system's capacity during peak periods (primarily irrigation). "MET has explained that it expects their typical daily usage for most other times of the year would be a 3rd to maybe a quarter to a 3rd of that," Egger said, placing typical daily use in a 25,000–35,000 gallon range.
Egger and other panelists said that relative to Rosemount's existing appropriation authorization (discussed later by DNR), the site's peak numbers are small and consistent with projections already included in city water-supply planning. The Department of Natural Resources representative noted that the DNR reviews appropriation and permit requests against sustainability criteria and that Rosemount has provided required data during that review.
The panel encouraged residents with site-specific concerns to follow up with staff at the booths and through posted web materials.
