Council approves subdivision-recording extension, hears public-safety report and thanks volunteers

The Independence City Council on July 16 approved Resolution No. 24-0716-01, extending the time to record a previously approved minor subdivision for properties at and adjacent to 8910 Highway 12 after title and ownership issues were resolved. City Administrator Kaltsas explained the delay resulted from a gap in ownership that required additional title work; Kaltsas said the property owner's new attorney and Vose now agree and the city must record the resolution at the county level. Councilor Betts moved to approve the resolution and Mayor Johnson seconded; the motion passed unanimously, 5-0.
The council received the June activity report from West Hennepin Public Safety. WHPS Director Gary Kroells reported 2,168 incident complaints for June, with 236 in Independence and 96 in Maple Plain.
Council also moved and approved a proclamation thanking Maple Plain Presbyterian Church for volunteer work removing garbage and weeding at City Hall; Mayor Johnson noted a correction to the proclamation's text (it should reference Delano rather than the SW side of County Line Road). The council approved the proclamation unanimously.
The council approved routine consent items earlier in the meeting, including minutes, accounts payable batches, election judges for the 2024 elections and the Q2 building permit report, all carried in a single consent motion. The meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
