The Milroy City Council unanimously approved Amos Krause as a new member of the fire department at its Feb. 23 meeting, contingent on completion of required training, and discussed related department budgeting and FEMA grant clothing.
Fire Chief Krueger and councilmembers noted ongoing budgeting considerations for the department and discussed fire contract costs. The council’s approval of Krause was recorded as a unanimous motion (moved Zwach, second L. Sik) and will be implemented once training is completed.
Public Works Director Sando reported that MN Rural inspected the pond depth and slug, and the Minnesota Department of Health inspected the city wellhouses. MDH identified two items: a repaired screen that will be addressed and the need to add posts around the well heads; Public Works will complete those corrections. Councilmembers also discussed items in the city shop (a water line above the office, power washer, meter-testing equipment and pond gates) and asked Sando to prepare a prioritized list of needed and wanted equipment.
Councilmember Chris Schmitt reviewed proposed updates to the personnel policy handbook and said Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) language will be added; a clean copy will be provided for council consideration at the March meeting. The water/sewer budget and fee discussion was tabled until April, with budget numbers to be provided at that time.
Clerk/Treasurer Betsy Snyder reported a resident complaint about fast-moving traffic along Hwy 68 and clarified that the city has no jurisdiction over the highway. Snyder also reported the civil defense siren does not operate in winter (Oct.–Apr.), city cell phones were activated and staff will seek recommendations and costs for improved laptop placement and live streaming.
The council adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
