New Bremen council reviews insurance renewal, meter project and upcoming waterline work

Councilman Larger presided and reported May fines, fees and forfeitures of $1,286 and said the village received a letter from WORA indicating the board approved selling approximately five acres off Greenville Road in St. Marys. Fiscal Officer Amy M. Speelman and Village Administrator Richter were present for administrative reports; Mayor Robert D. Parker was absent.
Administrator Richter described plans for an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) meter overlay to be carried out with Anixter and Tantalus; Richter said the overlay will be a six-month project that depends on completing a fiber ring. Richter also reported a new slide pump has been installed at the village pool and that Fenson Contracting plans to begin the SR 274 waterline project the week of July 10. Choice One Engineering is finalizing assessments and bid dates for Plum Street reconstruction.
Council reviewed an insurance renewal proposal for property, vehicle and equipment insurance that quoted $73,899, a 5.6% increase which Richter attributed to higher cyber liability exposure and broader risk. The insurance item was noted on second reading as Resolution 2023-05-09. The council also noted a second reading of Resolution 2023-05-10 addressing the necessity of certain sidewalk, curb, gutter and driveway approach repairs on sections of S. Eastmoor Drive, Plum Street and Park Street.
Procedural votes taken during the meeting included a motion by Councilwoman Elshoff, seconded by Councilman Lomakin, to excuse Councilmember Wuebker (no roll-call tally recorded for that motion in the transcript); minutes from the May 22 regular meeting were approved on a motion by Councilman Burnell, seconded by Councilwoman Elshoff (five ayes). Lomakin moved to adjourn at 6:51 p.m.; Condon seconded and the meeting adjourned (five ayes).
Councilwoman Elshoff closed with a community note, saying Little Slugger organizers had thanked the village for hosting games and maintaining fields and shelters. The meeting record concludes with signatures indicating Mayor Robert D. Parker and Fiscal Officer Amy M. Speelman.
