Pine River-Backus board ratifies labor contract, accepts audit and approves multiple hires

The Pine River-Backus Board of Education on Nov. 3 unanimously approved a package of actions that included ratifying a 2025-27 contract with Service Employees International Union, Local #284, accepting the districts fiscal year 2025 audit and approving multiple personnel hires and resignations.
The board met in the high school media center at 5:30 p.m. Chair Chris Cunningham presided; members present were Leslie Bouchonville (Clerk), Roger D. Hoplin, Nicki Linsten-Lodge, Carrie Maurer-Ackerman, David Sheley and Ryan Trumble. Superintendent Jonathan Clark attended. Clifton Larson Allen presented a summary of the 2024-25 financial statements and audit report earlier in the meeting.
The board approved the Consent Calendar on a motion by David Sheley, seconded by Carrie Maurer-Ackerman. The Consent Calendar included payment of checks 78323 through 78497 totaling $274,232.92, the investment report, the treasurers report, electronic fund transfer records, a resolution accepting monetary awards and donations, and a slate of personnel items. Personnel actions approved included the resignations of John Edelman (bus driver), effective Nov. 7, 2025, and Lisa Dabrowski (cook), effective Dec. 31, 2025; and the hiring of multiple coaches and advisors, including junior and varsity coaches for basketball and wrestling, knowledge bowl advisors, robotics coaches, a speech coach and a prom advisor. Several hires list effective dates in November 2025 or for the 2025-26 school year.
The board also individually approved a 2025-2027 Master Agreement with Service Employees International Union, Local #284, and a Memorandum of Understanding with Pine River-Backus Education Minnesota addressing Article VII, Section 6 (Additional Class Sizes). A Consortium Agreement enabling cross-district high school course access was approved as well. All recorded motions carried with unanimous votes.
