Board approves appointments, policies and maintenance contracts; two members mark final meeting

During the Dec. 16 meeting the Lake of the Woods School Board moved through routine business and took several personnel and policy actions.
The board approved routine consent items including the Dec. 16 meeting agenda and Nov. 25 minutes, and it approved invoices, financial statements, reconciliations, wire transfers and purchase card statements by voice vote.
Appointments approved included Jonathan Messenbrink as a full-time custodian and assistant bus mechanic, and Brian Sather as the varsity softball coach. The board also approved a slate of updated policies that staff said were revised to reflect recent legislative changes and MSBA recommendations, including policy 503 (student attendance), 506 (student discipline, adding unscheduled student removal provisions), 522 (Title IX nondiscrimination), curriculum and instruction policy 601, and several others.
The board approved a Dakota Fire contract for annual sprinkler inspection at a stated annual cost of $1,500 (the board noted that quote was $250 less than an alternate vendor). Staff said sprinkler inspections are required by the fire marshal and are separate from fire-extinguisher checks.
At the meeting's close administrators and board leadership thanked outgoing board members Tim Lion (15 years) and TR (seven years) for their service. The board adjourned at approximately 7:13 p.m.
