The police representative reported 147 calls for service in August and 1,653 calls year‑to‑date, and described the quote for Taser 10 devices at about $16,522. The quoted package included cartridges, batteries and software/maintenance for multiple devices; staff noted shipping would take roughly five to six months and that training or certification for a local instructor was an optional extra included in earlier pricing. The department said the new device extends effective range to about 45 feet compared with the older device.
Council members discussed budget timing and whether to move funds into next year for the five‑year contract. A motion to proceed with the existing taser proposal was made, seconded and approved by voice vote; the police report was accepted by the council.
Council also reviewed other police line‑item purchases mentioned during the report (training, printing, and equipment replacement), and directed staff to process the purchase consistent with the adopted budget and timing constraints.
