Moline-Coal Valley CUSD 40 construction projects progressing; district shows live camera access and says projects are on time

Mr. G. U., speaking to the Moline-Coal Valley CUSD 40 Board at its June 22 meeting, gave a progress update on ongoing elementary and high-school construction projects, saying crews have removed exterior facades, demolished the old gymnasium and administrative wing, and are preparing foundation formwork and helical piers for tie-ins to existing structures.

“Otherwise, we’re on time, on budget, and everything’s running pretty smoothly,” Mr. G. U. said, noting contractors are installing an underground detention system beneath the parking lot and preparing concrete slabs and piers that will be completed over the next month to month and a half. He also pointed trustees to a live camera feed available to the public and board for ongoing site monitoring.

District officials said work on other projects is similarly advancing: high school restroom and cafeteria renovation walls and finishes are being installed, three elementary buildings are undergoing classroom work and casework staging, and gym flooring is scheduled for replacement. Attendees asked questions about timing and community impact; board members and the student board member expressed enthusiasm for visible progress.

Board members and staff praised contractor Estus and district project coordinators for coordination. The presenter singled out Sarah Breeze and Keith Karsten for working closely with structural engineers and architects and for managing OAC meetings and submittals.

The district did not provide a final completion date in the meeting; officials said the current timelines anticipate major foundation and slab work to be complete within the next six weeks and that capital-project deficits reflected elsewhere in district budget documents relate to the timing of bond-funded construction costs.

The board moved on after the update to the budget hearing and other agenda items.
