Separately, councilors debated and then approved a revision to the personnel policy that raises the safety-boot allowance for public-works employees. The previous policy set a $140 amount that council members said no longer covered current boot prices. Council amended the policy to increase the allowance to $225 per pair, clarified that replacements for boots damaged by job duties may be approved by the city administrator, and directed staff to correct typographical errors in the personnel policy.
Council discussed vendor choices (Red Wing was referenced as a common supplier and for warranty options) and said the increase should cover a minimally acceptable safety boot while allowing employees to purchase higher-priced options at their own expense.
