Jasper Council approves 2025 sheriff contract, audit agreement and gambling license; orders new shop camera

The Jasper City Council on Dec. 10, 2024 approved several routine contracts and resolutions, including a 2025 law‑enforcement contract with the Pipestone County Sheriff for $52,287 and an audit‑services agreement with Meulebroeck for the 2024 audit. Council also approved a gambling application for a Bingo event planned for Jan. 11, 2025 and accepted a resignation that created a short, unfilled vacancy on the council.
Mayor Les Nath and council members voted to approve Resolution 24‑345D, authorizing the sheriff contract for 2025 at $52,287.00. Council approved the Meulebroeck audit services agreement for the 2024 audit year and granted the Quartziter group's gambling license for a bingo fundraiser on city property scheduled Jan. 11, 2025. The minutes record motions and that votes were recorded as "all ayes." The council also approved Resolution 24‑345C, establishing $3,371.13 in special assessments for delinquent mowing and utility charges.
City administration told the council it had received an ARP payment from Pipestone County of $30,000; council action on claims and receipts acknowledged $22,459.36 in unapproved claims at the time of the meeting. Council accepted the resignation of N. Rieck (effective Nov. 12, 2024) and indicated the vacancy would not be filled before the term ended Dec. 31, 2024.
Council reviewed liquor‑license renewals for 2025. City administration said D's Mart no longer requires a 3.2 license because sales have been consolidated with D's Liquor; the state was notified. Stone Wall Bar and Grill was invited to the meeting to provide an update as part of its renewal process; council noted license expiration dates of Jan. 31, 2025.
On personnel and compliance matters, administration said the city had missed pay‑equity compliance earlier in the year, obtained an extension from Minnesota Management and Budget to resubmit by Dec. 31, 2024, and presented revised job descriptions and point changes; council approved the updates for submission.
Council set the 2025 meeting schedule (first Tuesday of each month) and confirmed elected‑official training options, with the nearest in‑person session in Alexandria on Feb. 28–Mar. 1, 2025. The meeting adjourned at 8:03 p.m.; the next regular meeting is set for Jan. 14, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
